Quite simply, I shouldn’t be! Everyone has a human right to have a job they love. The sad truth is that in reality, the vast majority of people go home every day unfulfilled by the work that they’re doing. Studies by Gallup have actually revealed that 8 out of 9 employees are disengaged or indifferent towards their organisations.
Good enough is NOT good enough
We seem to be conditioned to believe that we can settle for a less than amazing position and that as long as it’s no big deal, then that’s good enough. Good enough is not sufficient!
How many times have you heard a person say? “She’s so lucky! She loves her job.” Why does that feeling have to be limited to one person or a small group of people? It is your right, not a privilege to have a job you love as much as anyone else does.
Now, imagine a world where everyone loves the job they’re in, where they work for a company that makes them feel that they matter. Imagine how much happier everyone would be when they wake up excited for the day ahead and when Monday no longer feels like Monday. What would the conversations with your friends and family sound like after work without having to vent your frustrations? How do we get there?
Start with your purpose
You need to figure out your purpose, your cause, your belief. What makes you get up in the morning? This shouldn’t be confused with earning a salary which is a result or an outcome. When you’ve figured this out, you need to find a company or business that embodies these causes and beliefs, as this allows you to feel a real connection to the work that you do. Just because you don’t enjoy your job, doesn’t mean it’s a bad job or a bad company, a lot of the time we feel disconnected from our employers because we feel our goals aren’t the same, we don’t like what they stand for – or sometimes we don’t know or understand what they’re about – we don’t believe what they believe. This is actually how Carter Recruitment started…
Alex Carter formed Carter Recruitment following 13 years’ continuous experience of operating within the marketing and sales sectors. When I first met with Alex he told me he was disenchanted with the way recruitment companies are run, that he wanted to address the industry’s reputation for poor service, bad practice and the way its staff are treated and it really resonated with me. I loved that he wasn’t just about placing awesome marketing and sales people in their dream jobs within amazing companies – although he does that really well! The heart of the business is its passion to set the standard in service, ethics and fundamentally the way great Recruitment Consultants are valued by their employers. This was something I knew I could get on board with and played a big part in me making my move.
Working at Carter Recruitment has helped me realise that having a job you love truly is a right, not a privilege which is why I now help the people I care about find a lifetime of joy through their work. I get a real kick out of placing someone in their dream role, somewhere I know that they’ll feel fulfilled for years to come. Knowing that I can help someone experience that feeling is amazing.
That’s my cause at work, what’s yours?
